19th-21st November 2015 in Dortmund Germany

The Department of International Planning Studies, in cooperation with the Habitat Unit of the TU Berlin, is organized the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Network-Association of European Researchers on Urbanization in the South (N-Aerus). The conference entitled "WHO WINS AND WHO LOOSE? - Exploring and learning from transformations and actors in the cities of the South " took place from 19.11. to 21.11.2015 in Dortmund.

N-Aerus is an interdisciplinary European network of researchers and experts in the field of urban development in the Global South. Since 1996 it aims at linking research and teaching activities. The orientation of the Annual Meeting in Dortmund pursued the goal to further crosslink the faculty at the international level and increase their importance as a location for international research in the field of urban development.

The DFG-funded event included three themes: "Urbanization beyond megacities: new urban patterns - new constellations of actors", "Learning from diverse experiences beyond 'best practice'" and "The Politics of Knowledge in Research and Education". For each topic, "Roundtable" –discussions were organised with keynote speakers from South Africa, Tanzania, the UK and Germany. These inputs were supplemented by topic-specific short presentations and discussions.
