  • 1977 - 1985: Studies in Geography and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Bonn (Diplom, equivalent to MSc)
  •  1987: Post-graduate studies at the Centre for Agricultural Development (SLE) in Berlin; research and consultation project  in Liberia
  • 1999: PhD  (Dr. rer. pol.) in Spatial Planning at the TU Dortmund University,  Topic of the dissertation: Participation of Women in Local Development in Ghana

  • 2011 to date: Senior lecturer at the SPRING Post-Graduate Programme of the Faculty of Spatial Planning at the TU Dortmund University;
  • 2004-2010: Senior researcher at the Faculty of Spatial Planning of the TU Dortmund University, managing the BIOTA project ‘Sustainable Use and Management of Biodiversity for Rural Livelihood around Kakamega Forest in Kenya’
